Putting the Health Back into Healthcare is like eating and elephant - you do it one bite at a time. I learned this the hard wad - by trying to do it in my little corner of the world. See the video at http://www.azcbc.com/ASBA/ASBA0607.html

What did we achieve? A plan that has a total cost increase from 2006 to 2009 of 3%! Yes it was business provided, but the pooling effect of bringing groups of small businesses together under an Association Umbrella made it higher quality, more predictable, and lower cost for the emplyees without crippling the small businesses.

Washington is working on this again - Ted Kennedy is making it his focus. http://www.newsweek.com/id/187995

Others from big business to small are each taking a bite., Perhaps together we can eat the elephant and get it off the table.

I guess I'd better write another post about that then, because I more or less do understand how it works...took me awhile, but I've got it.

Actually, I don't think anyone really knows how it works, as one woman told me last week. She was laid off just as the bill passed, and when she called her former employer he was clueless about who she should pay and how for her COBRA.

As I understand it, they pick up the subsidy but take a direct credit on their payroll taxes, so it should be a net-net?

And here's ANOTHER problem with half-assed reform: now small businesses have to pick up the COBRA subsidy in the stimulus plan. So they won't be able to hire their workers back. Shouldn't we realize that employer sponsored health care doesn't work? Let's put our thinking caps on and come up with a better solution than breaking our businesses and leaving employees stranded.
