Yesterday, HHS and the Department of Veterans Affairs announced that they have successfully tested the use of metadata tagging in the exchange of patient data. The demonstration showed how patient data can be tagged so that when a clinician receives the information, he or she would know to seek patient consent before sharing the data with another provider.
